Worth OBs 38 - 12 Warlingham 1st XV

Warlingham opened and closed the scoring in this topsy turvey match decided by a Worth purple patch just before half time.

The Wars started well and, despite a few handling errors likely caused by the enforced much changed team selection, troubled the Worth defence. From repeated ill discipline at the break down, Warlingham were able to pen the hosts into their own 22 and a well taken line out by skipper Morgan Gillam was fed to Lew Brown who powered his way past 5 defenders to score under the posts. Chatfield drilled over the conversion and the Wars were up. Unfortunately the rest of the half belonged to Worth who picked Warlingham’s pocket to capitalise on mistakes, missed tackles and an interception to ratchet the pressure up on Warlingham.

The home side attacking up hill must have thought they would have it their own way after the break. But a more resilient Warlingham came out after the huddle and were once again the better team for long periods. Powerful and direct running from Matt Barnett, Harry Cave and the Jones Brothers in tandem gave worth problems. Alex Glover teased the defence and opened up space, often being hit late in the process. The match became somewhat scrappy and heavily physical with quick ball at a premium but Warlingham on the front foot can trouble any defence. Centre Mark Chatfield danced through the Worth defence to add to his 100% away try scoring record and a well deserved second half try. No conversion this time but again plenty of positives to point to and added to some game management this new side continue to develop.

Warlingham play London Media again away in Battersea Park this Saturday at 3pm. All support as ever is gratefully received. Warlingham are back at home on 26th October v Old Hamptonians.
