Finals day was finally here, and the boys took to the pitch after a remarkable season. Despite a tough start against division winners Weybridge, the team showed consistent improvement, even with limited training opportunities.
Today, the players demonstrated growth and resilience, responding well to last week’s challenge. They fought hard, supported each other, and made Guildford earn every point. Though the opposition reacted faster at key moments—winning turnovers and capitalizing on small errors—we matched them for most of the game. Despite a narrow four-point loss, we proved ourselves a worthy adversary.
Guildford secured victory with two tries either side of halftime, their red-capped fullback making a significant impact. In a game of fine margins, quick penalties and errors proved costly. But our defence was outstanding, the pack showed relentless determination, meeting every threat head-on and maintaining strength in the scrum. With Joe O’Connor winning more jackals than ever before, in a man of the match performance.
Special mention goes to Alby Edwards for his perseverance against a dominant opponent.
Max Halama and Ed Wright worked tirelessly to break through the defence, while Maxwel Fosberry, Max Levin, and Harrison Wood made bold runs, only to be stopped by tackles or handling errors. Hartley Horsfall gave his all, making crucial tackles before being sidelined by a knock. Fran Crozier and Arun Anderson put in solid shift in the centres, trying to create opportunities under loads of pressure.
Though we didn’t get the try we deserved, the journey to finals day has been incredible. The boys have grown as a team, improving communication, energy levels, and commitment with every game. Moves came together, tries were scored, and victories were earned.
Proud of every single player—true legends on the field today.
